The point about keeping the carrier out permanently is so important and so overlooked. Most people only bring it out for vet visits, which basically trains the cat to associate it with stress. Leave it out all the time with a familiar blanket inside and it just becomes another piece of furniture — the cat stops seeing it as a threat. Makes any kind of travel or relocation dramatically less stressful for everyone involved.
